Belyashi is a dish of Tatar, Bashkir, Kalmyk, and Kazakh cuisine, which often evokes dubious associations with a train station snack.
However, it all depends on the recipe. Belyashi can be cooked in such a way that the household will ask for more.
Ingredients
The list of products for the test consists of:
- wheat flour – 3 cups;
- dry yeast – 7 g;
- sugar – 1 tbsp;
- salt – 1 tsp;
- water – 300 ml;
- vegetable oil – 50 ml.
The filling is prepared from:
- minced meat (pork and beef) – 300 g;
- onions – 1 pc.;
- water – ½ cup;
- salt and pepper.
How to cook belyashi
1. In a convenient bowl, mix the yeast, sugar, warm water and salt. Mix the ingredients and add 5 tbsp. sifted flour.
2. Cover the bowl with a towel and leave in a warm place for 15-20 minutes. When the dough has increased in size and bubbles appear on the surface, add vegetable oil and the remaining flour.
3. Knead the dough, then grease a clean, dry bowl and your hands with oil. Place a ball of dough in the bowl. Cover and put in a warm place for 60 minutes.
4. While the dough is resting, prepare the filling. Grind the onion in a blender and mix it with the minced meat in a deep bowl. Salt and pepper the mixture and add cold water. Mix the ingredients thoroughly.
5. Divide the dough into several balls. Form a flat cake out of them and place on a board. Leave in this form for 10-15 minutes.
6. Place 1 tbsp of filling in the center of the flatbread, then pinch the edges of the dough. Then press the pieces lightly with your palm, turn the semi-finished product seam-side down and place on any surface greased with oil.
7. Now all that’s left to do is fry the belyashi for 5 minutes on each side.
