No matter how delicious the meat is, without a side dish it looks orphaned, and the dinner or holiday table is incomplete.

But what to do if you are already tired of rice porridge or puree? You can cook something original, but not complicated.

Option one: baked potatoes

A great alternative to mashed potatoes is baked potatoes. The advantage of the side dish is that it is easy to prepare, almost everyone loves potatoes, and small subtleties in preparation allow you to diversify the table.

You need to peel the potatoes and place them on a baking sheet in one layer.

Add a little salt on top and brush with vegetable oil, which was previously mixed with crushed garlic.

If you have rosemary, this is a great way to add some unusual flavor to your potatoes. If not, you can use dill.

Bake in the oven until done at 200 degrees.

Option two: cabbage

This side dish is not only tasty and healthy. It can be made unusually beautiful. You need to stew cauliflower or broccoli in a saucepan.

If you want to impress your guests or family members not only with the taste but also with the appearance, choose several types of cabbage.

The easiest to find are white cauliflower and broccoli, which is a rich green color. But cauliflower can be purple, pinkish, yellow, or have unusually shaped florets (like romanesco).

To keep the inflorescences from losing their color, they should not be boiled, but poached. Poaching is heat treatment in a small amount of water.

Pour 2-3 cm of water into a saucepan and bring to a boil. Place the inflorescences with their stalks in the water so that the top is above the water.

Cook under the lid for a few minutes. Pour boiling water over it and put it on a common dish.

You can also steam the cabbage.

Option three: crumbly rice

Loose rice is a universal side dish. But many people find it more like porridge, as all the grains of rice stick together.

To prevent this from happening, you need to pour vegetable oil into the bottom of a thick-walled saucepan, heat it up and add dry rice.

Fry in oil until the rice grains become transparent. Then pour in boiling water 1:3, stir and cook under the lid on minimum heat for 30 minutes. Salt to taste. No need to stir.

These three side dishes will suit people with different tastes. But the most important thing is that they are easy to prepare.
