As a rule, by a cold we mean an acute respiratory viral infection, which is caused by rhinoviruses transmitted by airborne droplets.

We will try to explain in this article why infection with these viruses occurs especially often after children return from vacation.

Children's group

With the start of the school year, children have to spend a lot of time together. At the same time, they are in close contact with each other. Communication in most cases takes place in closed spaces: classrooms and kindergarten groups, and there are many more viruses here than in open spaces - therefore, the risk of infection is higher.

Insufficient hand hygiene

Many toddlers and older children put dirty hands, pencils, pens and other objects in their mouths, thereby helping the virus to reach them. In addition, a child may ignore the need for such a procedure as hand washing if there is no supervising parent nearby.

Dry indoor air

Due to radiators and other heating devices, the humidity level in the room decreases. As a result, the nasal mucosa becomes drier and therefore more susceptible to viruses.

Lack of sleep

During the holidays, many children do not follow the routine, so at the beginning of school they have difficulties with the daily routine: they go to bed late, wake up early and, as a result, do not get enough sleep. Due to lack of sleep, immunity deteriorates - the body simply does not have enough strength to cope with infections, and the child gets sick.
