Why You Shouldn't Stop Your Child from Playing in a Puddle: You'll Be Surprised

An adult who stumbles upon a puddle on his way will most likely be dissatisfied and will start to scold the utility services or complain about his shoes that let water through.

For a child, a puddle is a great opportunity to have fun (and be useful for development) while spending time.

How to introduce a baby to a puddle

Before you go "visiting" a puddle, it's worth preparing: take rubber boots, waterproof clothing, a bucket and a shovel for playing, find a long stick and don't forget to grab some wet wipes.

That being said, discuss the rules of behavior with your child on the shore. It is allowed to: walk in puddles, stamp your feet in small puddles, dig in them with a shovel and a stick. It is not allowed to: jump and run in puddles, splash, dig in a puddle with your hands.

What to do if the child disobeyed and broke the agreement? Do not scold him, just stop the game and take him home or to another place, away from the puddle - he will not do it again.

What to play with a puddle

You can simply let your child walk through puddles – this will help you out a lot if you have a long journey ahead. Offer to measure the puddle in your own, mom’s or dad’s steps. Take a car with you, which can be rolled through the puddle by a rope.

If you stock up on a stick and a spool of thread in advance, you can make a fishing rod. Tie a pine cone or another "hook" to the other end and try fishing or catching leaves from a puddle together.

In addition, using a stick you can study the properties of a puddle (its depth), and by pouring water into a transparent cup, you can compare its transparency in different puddles.

Observe which puddle dries faster - the one in the shade or the one in the sun: to do this, you need to outline them with chalk and then compare.

You can use a shovel to connect puddles, dig canals and explore dams, or you can leave wet boot prints on dry asphalt or even create a real labyrinth out of them.
