The task of learning a poem or a passage from a literary work by heart is often accompanied by the question from schoolchildren: why is this necessary?
But the answer lies not only in memory training, although this is also essential.
Psychologist Margarita Alekseeva told Channel Five why it is so important to learn poems by heart at school and what else they help train besides attention.
Firstly, having a child memorise poetry is not emotional abuse, the expert says.
Secondly, in addition to memory, memorizing poetry helps train attention.
Schoolchildren may exhibit scattered attention and difficulty completing tasks independently.
The reason for this is the volume of material learned in school classes.
You can train your attention and memory with the help of poetry. At the same time, the specialist calls attention and memory themselves higher mental functions.
To improve the quality of these functions, regular training is required.
That is why the school curriculum includes reading poems and texts from memory.
If a student cannot remember poems and passages, it would be better to consult a neuropsychologist or a speech therapist.
