How to walk with a child outside in the heat: it is the responsibility of parents to make the walk safe for the baby

Coping with the summer heat is equally difficult for both adults and children. We suggest discussing the issue of walking with a baby in hot weather.

How to dress a child for a walk

If you're hot, your baby is probably warm too, which means you shouldn't dress him or her in too many clothes.

Instead, dress your baby the same way you dress yourself. Give preference to clothes made of natural fabrics (cotton, linen, etc.) - they cope better with absorbing sweat. Things should be light, loose and light in color.

Don't forget about the headgear - if the baby is under three months old, there should always be a light cotton cap on his head. The exception is a very warm and windless day when the baby is lying in a cradle with the top closed.

Please note: It is possible that a tightly closed carrycot can become stuffy and hot, so consider folding the top down and creating shade with a large umbrella.

Where to walk with a child in the heat

When going for a walk, try to choose shaded and cool places, since in open sunlight your baby risks getting a burn or heat stroke.

Places with lots of trees and greenery, such as a forest or park, are great. Don't miss the opportunity to visit a lake, pond or walk near fountains.

When can you go for a walk?

Try not to go outside between 11am and 3pm. This is when the sun is most active and the heat reaches its peak.
