What to Do If You Suspect Your Child Has Been Poisoned: A Simple Action Plan – Better If You Don’t Use It

Sometimes children manage to secretly eat or drink things that they should never put in their mouths.

What to do if you suspect that your child has been poisoned?

1. Call an ambulance or ask someone to do it.

2. If the child is conscious, try to remove the poison from the body as quickly as possible. To do this, give him 1-6 glasses of warm water to drink (the amount of liquid depends on the age of the baby) and press on the root of the tongue with two fingers to induce vomiting.

The sooner you do this, the less toxic substance will enter the body.

3. If the child has lost consciousness, do not try to make him vomit. Your task is to control his condition until the ambulance arrives.

4. If you know what your baby has been poisoned with (for example, there is an open bottle of cleaning product nearby), be sure to tell the doctor about it.

In cases where there is no obvious evidence, a small amount of vomit should be collected – it may be needed for analysis.
