Why You Shouldn't Start Feeding Your Baby With Apples: There Are 3 Good Reasons

Apples are not suitable for the first feeding. However, some people (more precisely, our grandmothers) are absolutely sure that it is necessary to start feeding with apples, as they contain useful vitamins and microelements.

Modern recommendations say that the first complementary food should consist of vegetables, and then fruit purees can be introduced.

In this article, we will list the reasons why apples cannot be the first complementary food.

After apples the child will not want to eat vegetables

The main goal of complementary feeding is to introduce the baby to different tastes and prepare his body for the transition to "adult" food. Apples contain a lot of natural sugars (fructose) and have a pronounced sweet or sour-sweet taste that children like.

Therefore, after apples, a child is unlikely to want to eat broccoli, zucchini and cauliflower, which are no less healthy but somewhat bland.

Apples contain little protein.

The right time to introduce complementary feeding comes when mother's milk no longer meets the needs of the growing child's body. First of all, the baby needs proteins, which are the main building material.

The protein content, like fat, in an apple is insignificant - about 0.4 grams per 100 grams, while carbohydrates make up almost a tenth.

Apples can cause allergies and gastrointestinal problems

Red fruits, although rare, become an allergen for a child. If the baby is not gaining weight well and is prone to loose stools, after getting acquainted with apples, the situation will only get worse - these fruits can provoke bloating and increased gas formation, and sour fruits, in addition to everything, irritate the gastric mucosa.
