Just 30-40 years ago, parents universally practiced the early potty training approach.
How it worked: after feeding the child, he was held over the potty until he had a bowel movement (it was forbidden to sit the baby down before he learned to sit on his own).
Disadvantages of early potty training
This approach currently has far fewer supporters, and for good reason.
1. Due to the fact that the child’s nervous system at this age is still poorly developed, the training process is slow and ineffective.
2. Early potty training can cause constipation, urinary or fecal incontinence, and neurotic reactions.
3. Even if the training was successful, the acquired skill can easily disappear when stressful situations arise.
What do pediatricians advise?
Modern pediatricians advise developing in children not just a habit, but a conscious skill that is formed no earlier than 18 months.
At this age, potty training will take 6 to 12 months. Thus, by the age of 24-30 months, the baby will be able to consciously control his needs.
