There is nothing complicated about helping your baby master the skill of dressing himself.
The first thing every parent needs to do is to stock up on patience and also on suitable clothes for the child.
What clothes to buy for a child
When choosing clothes for a baby who is just learning to dress, you should give preference to simple and comfortable things that are easy to put on and take off. Nothing should distract the baby. Laces, ties and a large number of fasteners are best left for an older age.
Let's start with the trousers - they should have a wide elastic band at the waist, be spacious and soft to the touch.
It’s good if there is a large and funny picture or applique on the front of the clothes – this will help the child determine where the front and back of the clothes are.
The child should put on tights, pants, socks, etc. while sitting, with their legs hanging freely over the edge of the chair or bench. Parents can sit next to them and show by their example how to dress properly.
If at first the child gets tangled in the legs of his trousers or gets his feet stuck in the folds of his clothes, it is worth supporting him with the words “it’s okay” and gently directing his actions in the right direction.
The T-shirt, jacket or sweater should have a wide neck. Children are often afraid of being "trapped" inside the clothes and therefore first stick their face through the collar, not their head.
If a child gets stuck in the neck, he will most likely scream and call for help, and parents may get irritated and abruptly pull the naughty clothes on the child. All this can form a negative idea of dressing in the child, and it is quite possible that next time he will not want to dress himself.
