How to teach a child to drink from a cup instead of a bottle: the easiest way

You can teach your child to drink from a cup as soon as the child learns to sit confidently.

It’s worth starting with a spill-proof cup – the drink flows out of it in small portions, exactly as much as the baby can swallow.

Another advantage of such a cup is that the child will not be able to pour liquid from it on himself in one movement.

Your task at this stage is to teach your baby to hold the cup in his hands and tilt it so that its contents fall into his mouth and not onto the floor.

Once this skill has been mastered, the sippy cup can be removed and replaced with a regular cup.

At first, hold the cup and help the child drink. As the skill is mastered, transfer "control" of the dishware to the baby.

On average, it takes a few weeks for a child to learn how to adjust the tilt of the cup so that the liquid flows into the mouth in a small stream. Once he has mastered this skill, allow him to pick up and place the cup on the table himself.

While you are getting your son or daughter used to drinking from a cup, gradually remove any drinks from the bottle.

And one more thing: choose dishes made of unbreakable materials, because at first, mistakes are inevitable. Do not pour a full cup of water - then the dishes will be too heavy for children's hands. It is enough to pour a little liquid so that it is enough for a few sips.
