What to do if your baby hiccups after feeding: first figure out the cause

Young parents often notice that during or after each feeding their baby begins to hiccup.

According to experts, there are 3 reasons that could have led to this unpleasant condition.

1. If the baby swallowed air.
2. In case of overeating.
3. Due to intestinal problems in infants.

Therefore, to eliminate hiccups, you should first deal with the “root source” of the problem – and the solution will come by itself.

If air gets into the stomach

If hiccups started as a result of air entering the stomach during feeding, take the baby vertically and press it to your body - in this position ("upright") the baby usually stops hiccuping.

If the baby has overeaten

Hiccups caused by overeating are “treated” in a similar way: hold the newborn upright for a while until he burps.

If your child has bloating

Try to ease the baby's suffering with a light massage and warm compresses, which can be made from warmed up diapers. As soon as the gas passes, everything will return to normal.
