Opening a bottle of champagne at the stroke of midnight has already become a good tradition for many.
But unfortunately, because people are in a hurry to fill their glasses, they often neglect basic safety rules.
How to open champagne without getting the cork in your eye
1. Do not shake the bottle of sparkling wine, so that the cork does not fly out in an unpredictable direction.
2. When removing the wire from the cork, hold it (that is, the cork) with your fingers to avoid opening the bottle prematurely.
3. When you uncork the champagne, try to hold the bottle at an angle of 40-45 degrees.
In this position, the pressure will hit not the cork, but the neck of the bottle.
4. Hold the bottle in place with one hand and gently twist the bottle left and right with the other.
When the cork starts to come loose, gently tilt it to the side with your thumb. Then remove the cork and fill the glasses.
To avoid the cork popping unexpectedly, you can wrap the neck of the bottle with a towel or napkin.
What to do if a champagne cork gets in your eye
The first thing to do if an accident does occur is to examine the victim.
If you notice blood in the soft orbital tissue around your eye, apply a cold compress without putting pressure on your eye. Then apply a loose, clean bandage and see an ophthalmologist immediately.
Even if you feel better, do not delay visiting your doctor.
Getting a champagne cork in your eye can cause a contusion, in which the eyeball suddenly contracts and snaps back to normal.
This can result in deterioration of vision, displacement of the lens, retinal detachment, rupture of the inner membranes of the eye, or separation of the iris.
