Probably each of us has experienced a sore throat.
Perhaps because of its “popularity,” you can find a lot of advice on how to treat it on the Internet.
But not all of them work: some folk remedies are useless, while others can do even more harm. For example, doctors do not recommend using the methods listed below under any circumstances.
Hot drink
Hot drinks, the temperature of which exceeds 60 degrees, cause micro-burns on the mucous membrane. After such "treatment" the throat will hurt even more.
If you decide to treat yourself with drinking, drink moderately warm drinks, with a temperature of up to 30-40 degrees.
It would be better if these were herbal infusions of chamomile, ginger root, or dried fruit compote.
Tinctures with honey and vodka
Another popular folk remedy is tinctures with melted honey and vodka.
What's wrong with them? Honey does have antiseptic, antibacterial and antioxidant properties, but when heated and combined with ethanol, it loses all its benefits.
Ethanol leads to drying out and irritation of the mucous membrane, while in no way affecting viruses.
When you have a sore throat, it is recommended to slowly dissolve a small amount of honey. This will not speed up the recovery process, but it will not make the situation worse.
Onions and garlic
So we have reached the “natural antibiotics” – at least that is what onions and garlic are called by common people.
You might think that the burning sensation in your throat after eating these vegetables indicates that bacteria have been destroyed, but in reality they simply irritate the lining of your throat and cause a scratchy feeling.
