Benefits and harms of tomato juice: what you need to know

19.10.2024 10:10

Tomato juice contains serotonin, the hormone of happiness.

The juice contains lectins, although they are poorly absorbed by our body because they stick to the intestinal cells, destroying its tissue.

But there is no need to panic, because scientists have not yet found any negative consequences from them.

On the contrary, tomatoes and especially tomato juice are very healthy.

Benefit

Of course, it is better to drink freshly squeezed juice, as it contains more useful elements.

The drink itself contains a whole group of vitamin B and other minerals: potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, copper, zinc and iron.

Beta-carotene, also included in the composition, is a provitamin of vitamin A and gives that same red hue, as does vitamin B3 - nicotinic acid and antioxidant.

A non-cyclic isomer for beta-carotene is lycopene, which, by the way, prevents the development of cancer and other negative diseases.

Some sources do not recommend consuming vitamin K, which is found in tomatoes, if you suffer from hemophilia - a blood clotting disorder, although this vitamin helps with blood clotting, and also helps build bones due to the synthesis of proteins, which comes from its properties.

One of the big advantages for women is that this product is perfect for diets and maintaining beauty, as it has a low calorie content (100 ml - 17 kcal), contains a sufficient amount of water and gives a great feeling of satiety.

Vitamin B7 (H) – biotin assimilates proteins, fats and carbohydrates, tightens the skin due to collagen, and improves complexion. Fat => energy. For men, this is a plus in increasing libido, but that depends more on vitamin B 6.

Returning to the topic of types of juice: freshly squeezed juice is full of vitamins A and C. Reconstituted juice, which is more often seen on store shelves, contains much fewer useful properties, because that powder has been subjected to multiple boilings and grinding until smooth.

Manufacturers add a lot of preservatives to such juices. The only good properties of such a drink is that the shelf life is much longer than that of freshly squeezed juice.
