The second half of summer forces many to pay attention to watermelons. Before that, the berries are looked at with caution because of nitrates.
But closer to August, fears in this regard are melting away before our eyes, and completely in vain.
Experts have named a sign that indicates that a watermelon should not be purchased.
Sliced watermelon
This applies to watermelons, as well as any other fruits sold in the market or in the store in cut form.
You can’t buy watermelons and melons cut into halves or quarters – this is dangerous to your health.
When stored in the open air, pathogenic microorganisms begin to develop in the pulp of the fruit.
Eating such fruits and berries can cause poisoning.
The danger comes from pathogens that have gotten onto the skin from the soil, as well as people who have previously touched the fruit.
The pulp of a cut watermelon or melon may contain the pathogen E. coli, listeria and salmonella.
Even if we assume that the melons were washed and cut with a clean knife, it is impossible to rule out contamination during transportation of the purchase home.
For the same reasons, it is not recommended to give children cut fruit to school or take it on a picnic in this form.
