The healing effect of mustard plasters is associated with the essential oil of mustard, which is released when heated.
They have a warming and irritating effect, expanding blood vessels and improving blood flow. Mustard plasters also contain phytoncides that suppress microorganisms, so they have, among other things, an anti-inflammatory effect.
How to apply mustard plasters
Mustard plasters can be applied to the upper chest, lung area, feet, calves, lower back, shoulders, back of the head or neck – depending on the disease.
Do not apply mustard plasters to the spine, shoulder blades or mammary glands.
Before use, mustard plasters should be immersed in water heated to the temperature indicated in the instructions.
Then the mustard plasters are applied to the body, placing them with the mustard facing down. It is essential to cover them with a clean towel and a warm blanket.
If you plan to use mustard plasters on a child, first consult a pediatrician - it is recommended that babies place the bags not on the skin, but on gauze or thin fabric to prevent burns.
The procedure lasts from 5 to 15 minutes for adults and from 3 to 5 minutes for children. After this, the mustard plasters are removed and the skin is wiped dry.
If a strong burning sensation occurs, the mustard plasters should be removed earlier.
