Drinking sweet tea and coffee is not harmful to health if you add a moderate amount of sugar.
This is the conclusion reached by Dutch scientists from Leiden University.
Their study was published in the journal PLOS One.
How much sugar can you put in tea and coffee
For more than 30 years, researchers monitored 3,000 subjects who drank coffee and tea with varying amounts of sugar.
Scientists regularly checked the health of the volunteers and assessed the causes of death of those who did not survive to the end of the study.
It has been found that adding sugar in moderation to coffee and tea (no more than 5 grams) does not increase the risk of premature death.
