If a runny nose bothers you for a long time, then eventually various thoughts may begin to bother you. For example, is it possible to suffocate in your sleep due to nasal congestion.
ENT specialist Konstantin Dobretsov answered this question during a conversation with representatives of the AiF publication.
According to the specialist, nasal congestion cannot cause suffocation.
But fatal consequences are still possible.
The thing is that the more often a person encounters problems with breathing through the nose, the more problems appear. For example, polyps may appear, the mucous membrane is damaged, the nasal conchae enlarge, and so on.
As a result, breathing may stop during sleep - apnea.
At the same time, muscle tone decreases, other problems of the nose and nasopharynx appear, which leads to a narrowing of the walls of the pharynx until the nasopharynx is completely closed.
A man or woman who is faced with the problem will have to take deeper breaths, which provokes snoring and apnea.
