In Belarus, there has been an increase in the number of road accidents involving wild animals.
The Belarusian Society of Hunters and Fishermen warned about this.
Statement by the BOOR on road accidents involving wild animals
From January 1 to September 10, 2,615 road accidents involving game animals of regulated species were registered in the country, which is 10.3% more than in the same period last year.
Since the beginning of September, there has been an increase in the number of moose killed in road accidents.
This is due to the beginning of their breeding season (rutting season). During this period, moose move more actively and often go out onto roads.
Of all wild ungulate game animals, moose are the most dangerous, noted the Belarusian Society of Hunters and Fishermen.
They warned that in the near future, with the onset of the most active phase of the rut, a significant increase in the number of accidents involving moose is predicted.
In addition, an increase in the total number of road accidents involving game animals of regulated species is expected from October.
BOOR and the State Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora under the President urge drivers to be more vigilant on roads passing through the lands.
Hunting managers conducting driven hunts near populated areas or public roads with indexes “M” and “R” should place shooting lines at least 500 meters away from them.
The hunt for animals must be carried out in the direction opposite to the populated area or road.
