In August, you can safely buy watermelons, since this is the time when they ripen without human intervention.
But no one has cancelled the skills of choosing the perfect watermelons.
Experts from the publication “ PRO City ” listed all the ways to determine the ripeness of a watermelon and named one that is surprisingly simple.
The most popular method in society is to choose a watermelon by ear. You don't have to be a musician to understand that a watermelon is good.
If they sound ringing when tapped, you can take them. If they sound dull, the watermelon is most likely either unripe or overripe.
The watermelon should have a dry tail. If it is still green, then most likely the berry was picked prematurely.
It is unlikely that such a watermelon will be sweet and tasty.
But you only need to look at a watermelon to assess its ripeness.
The indicator is a yellow spot on the side, or as experts call it – an earth spot.
The brighter and more saturated the color of the spot, the greater the chance that the watermelon ripened in a melon field.
Watermelons with a light or greenish spot are best set aside.
