The most popular item of clothing is jeans. The durable and reliable material is not afraid of anything except an unsuccessful wash, which can cause shrinkage or fading.

Let's try to figure out how often you can wash jeans and what is more important - appearance or hygiene rules.

Which is more harmful?

There is nothing more harmful for jeans than frequent washing. The more often clothes end up in the washing machine, the more intensively they fade, the faster they wear out or become stiff.

When to wash jeans

It is recommended to throw jeans in the washing machine for the first time after wearing them for two weeks from the date of purchase.

This tip will preserve the color and material.

When it comes to hygiene issues, experts say the amount of bacteria on trousers that haven't been washed for a week or two is almost the same.

What to replace washing with

1. Dirty jeans can be cleaned with a damp brush.

2. A steamer has a good effect, smoothing clothes and eliminating odor.

3. Another option is to freeze the jeans in the freezer, putting them in a bag for 12 hours. The bacteria will die and the smell will disappear.

And if you do have to wash it, you need to do it in water no hotter than 40 degrees, on a delicate wash cycle and at minimum speed, without soaking or wringing.

It is better to dry it naturally, not in the machine, by hanging it by the legs or horizontally.
