The first strawberries have already appeared on the shelves of retail chains and are still scaring shy buyers with their price.

However, it is not only the price that should alert lovers of enjoying early berries in April. In addition to vitamins, strawberries contain many interesting things.

Nutritionist Elena Solomatina spoke to Vechernyaya Moskva in an interview about why you shouldn’t rush to buy your first strawberries.

The reason is that the berry, which at best should ripen at the end of May or the beginning of June, can present an unpleasant surprise in April.

Early harvest comes mainly from far away. Every gardener knows firsthand how the not very transportable berry tolerates the peculiarities of transportation.

To ensure that the harvest does not lose its marketable appearance, it undergoes special treatment with antibiotics.

However, it is impossible to determine the presence of these substances in berries by external signs (smell or color), as well as by taste.

This only becomes clear over time, when health deteriorates and a person begins to suffer from simple infections.

An expert warns that strawberries sold in the off-season, which look like they just came off the bush, are guaranteed to have been brought from far away.

Therefore, you can be sure that the product contains antibiotics, Solomatina sums up.
