Putting food in the refrigerator does not necessarily ensure its safety until the food is used for its intended purpose.

It happens that food has to be thrown into the trash bin straight from the refrigerator. This happens when housewives ignore basic storage rules.

1. Rotation

All perishables should be stored closer to the edge of the shelf, not to the wall. Such a trifle will allow you to use these products first. It is even better to have a separate container or shelf for food with a short shelf life.

2. Packaging

Products are packed in airtight containers for a reason. Along with odors, bacteria spread, which causes irreversible processes. Housewives mainly use plastic containers and zip-lock bags. However, sausages and cheese should be stored in foil or parchment.

3. Freshness zones

It should be remembered that vegetable and fruit boxes provide for dry and wet storage. It is better to store apples and pears, bananas, peaches and apricots in the dry zone. That is, all fruits that emit ethylene. Fresh greens, cucumbers and tomatoes, peppers and strawberries are stored in the wet zone.

4. Order

Inspect regularly. If something has gone bad, be prepared for the neighboring products to soon start going bad too. One rotting fruit in the refrigerator can cause mold to appear and spoil half of the supplies.

5. Temperature

This is probably the most important point. Ideally, the temperature in the refrigerator should not be higher than 3-5 degrees Celsius. Eggs, sauces and animal feed are allowed to be stored on the door shelves.

The top shelf is considered the warmest, dairy products and sausages are stored here, prepared food is on the middle shelves, the lower shelves and containers are left for vegetables and fruits.
