The record for the most expensive hamburger (single serving) was set by Robbert Jan de Veen in June 2021.

That day, a resident of the Netherlands sold his culinary creation for 5 thousand euros, thereby immortalizing his name in the pages of the Guinness Book of Records.

The idea came to Robbert, the restaurant owner, during the pandemic, when his establishment was forced to operate as a takeout service.

It was then that de Veen developed a recipe for a hamburger called the Golden Boy.

He wanted the taste of the dish to justify its cost, so he decided to knead the dough for the bun with Dom Pérignon champagne. It was completely covered in gold leaf.

Champagne was also used in the frying process of the onion rings.

The meat used for the burger was beef - juicy wagyu with the addition of king crab and caviar.

The author described the taste of the dish as sweet, sour, salty and bitter.

The record holder donated the money he received for selling the hamburger to a local food bank, where it was used to make 1,000 food packages for needy families.
