How cats navigate in the dark: it became known who has better vision - humans or cats

Cats move with amazing ease both in the twilight and in pitch darkness, avoiding collisions with obstacles.

But does this give us the right to say that a pet has better eyesight than a human?

Science has long explained this phenomenon.

The cat's eye has more photoreceptors, which allows the animal to better navigate in the dark.

This feature is due to evolution. Leading a predatory lifestyle, cats are accustomed to twilight lighting, hunting mainly late in the evening or early in the morning.

But this does not mean that a cat's vision is sharper than a human's.

Animals do not see as well during the day, nor in bright light.

It is also important to remember that in addition to vision, cats have well-developed hearing and sense of smell.

It is the combination of all the senses that allows cats not only to avoid obstacles in the dark, but to successfully hunt in the twilight.

At the same time, cats do not have as well-developed color perception as humans.

The cat's eye can distinguish fewer shades. For example, green and red colors appear gray to them.
