A dog and a cat can easily become friends.

But the pet owner should not expect this to happen immediately.

And we must understand that any attempts to “speed things up” are fraught with very serious problems.

How to Prepare a Cat and Dog for Their First Meeting

Don't rush to "organize" the first meeting of your pets.

For some time, the animals should live in different rooms. However, during this period, it is necessary to ensure that the cat and dog begin to smell each other.

The desired result is achieved in the following way: a dog's toy should be brought into the room where the cat lives. And vice versa: in the room where the dog is, you need to put some purring thing.

Eventually, each animal will get used to the new smell. And the first meeting of the pets will most likely be easy.

How Not to Introduce a Cat to a Dog: A Common Mistake

So, you have completed the preparations for the first meeting of the pets. Fluffy and the dog are in the same room.

In such a situation, do not even try to "speed up" the animals. Do not push the cat under the dog's nose under any circumstances.

There is also no need to try to drag the dog by the leash to the purring cat's bed.

Such actions can lead to very unpleasant consequences: it is possible that the dog will attack the cat.

Let the animals move at the speed they choose. This will make the meeting much calmer.

Another recommendation: the dog should be kept on a leash. But keep in mind that tightening the belt should only be done in the most extreme cases.

Don't want to put a leash on your dog? Then choose a safe place for your cat in advance, which the dog definitely won't be able to reach.
