Although city ponds provide a feeling of freshness, experts do not recommend bathing dogs in them, even if it is very hot outside.
The reason for this is bacteria and viruses that live in urban water bodies.
It is almost impossible to find a pond or a body of water inside the city that would be safe for a dog to swim in, especially in hot weather. Unlike rivers, the water in such places is stagnant, and at high temperatures it can become a breeding ground for microorganisms and viruses, Vladimir Golubev, head of the Russian Cynological Federation, told RIA Novosti .
If necessary, it would be better to buy your pet outside the city.
Another reason is harmful substances that enter the ponds from city streets.
Often, water in places not intended for swimming does not meet sanitary standards.
The next reason is the ducks and other birds living in city ponds.
All of them are carriers of parasite larvae, which can cause diseases such as dermatitis and itching.
It is also important to remember that you should bathe your dog outside the city in places without steep banks and thickets, and also away from where people bathe.
You should not allow your dog to swim for more than 20-25 minutes to avoid hypothermia.
