Some owners boast that their dogs are "very popular" during walks.

So, many passers-by approach the animal and pet it.

But how should we treat this phenomenon? Some dog owners like it when strangers “communicate” with their four-legged friend.

Other people forbid passers-by from touching the animal.

Who is right? It turns out that there is a very simple answer to this question.

Is it okay to let strangers pet your dog?

We will answer with confidence: it is possible if the dog reacts positively or neutrally to people.

There is no need to be afraid that the dog will “get used” to a stranger, fall out of love with the owner and become less obedient.

There is no need to worry that a “sociable” dog will become worse at performing its duties (for example, guarding the house).

Dogs are social animals. They need communication. Do not forbid your pet to interact with other people.

However, there are exceptions to the rule. You should not allow passers-by to pet your dog if your four-legged friend is afraid of all strangers or certain types of people (children, large men, etc.).

Caution must also be exercised if the dog's owner senses some kind of danger.
