Mistakes Dog Owners Make After Finding a Tick: What Not to Do

Ticks are merciless and bite both humans and dogs with equal enthusiasm.
It is not so easy to detect a tick right away. Therefore, you cannot do without preventive treatment of your pet.
Experts have explained what to do if a tick has already attached itself to an animal’s body.
What needs to be done
1. After a walk, carefully examine the areas of your pet’s body where there is the least amount of hair and where the blood vessels are located close to the surface of the skin.
Most often, ticks are found in the area of the nose and eyes, on the jaw and neck, in the armpits, on the withers, in the groin and on the stomach, under the tail.
2. The examination begins with the head, feeling the folds of skin and fur. It is best to arm yourself with a brush.
3. After the bite, watch the dog's behavior. If it becomes lethargic, loses its appetite, starts to feel upset or vomit, has shortness of breath or other symptoms, then the dog should be taken to the vet immediately.
What not to do
Firstly, you cannot remove a tick with bare hands, tweezers or other objects that squeeze its body.
The correct method is to use a tick removal device or a loop of thread that is tightened close to the dog's skin.
After this, the tick is unscrewed.
If the tick's head remains in the wound, it must be removed with sterile tweezers or a needle to avoid inflammation.
Secondly, you cannot pour oil, acetone or other irritating substances on the insect.
The suffocating tick releases more infected saliva into the wound.
Thirdly, you can't wait for the tick to fall off on its own. All this time, the infected insect will infect your pet.
