A cat with its tongue hanging out looks funny.

But sometimes caring owners are not in the mood for laughing: they may begin to suspect that something is wrong with their pet.

It is worth emphasizing that in some cases a protruding tongue is indeed a very dangerous sign.

However, there is not always a reason to worry. Let's look at each case separately.

When there is no reason to worry

There is no need to worry if your cat sticks out its tongue while sleeping. On the contrary, there is a reason to rejoice: apparently, your pet managed to completely relax. There are clearly no problems with sleep.

There is no need to worry if the weather is hot. In high temperatures, cats stick out their tongues to improve heat exchange.

Sometimes the tongue sticks out when the furry one has frozen and is paying attention to something: in such a situation, the owner also has no reason to worry.

When to be wary

But if a person feels that the pet with its tongue hanging out has difficulty breathing, then the animal should be shown to a veterinarian.

Quite often, a protruding tongue indicates breathing problems caused by diseases of the cardiovascular, urinary and, of course, respiratory systems.

It is possible that the mucous membrane of the oral cavity has become inflamed.

Measures should also be taken if the owner suspects that the cat has been injured.
