People become emotionally attached to their pets, and the desire to prolong the life of a cat or a kitten in such a situation is quite understandable.

On average, domestic cats live about 15-16 years. But proper care can extend the life of your pet, turning it into a long-liver.

What Affects Life Expectancy

According to representatives of the Veterinary Department of the Amur Region, in addition to external factors such as nutrition, veterinary examination, activity, longevity depends on heredity and genetic predisposition, experts claim in their Telegram channel.

1. Drinking water

A cat should have free access to clean drinking water. Moreover, older animals need even more water.

2. Stress

The cat should have its own place in the house where it can hide and feel protected. This could be a corner near a heating device or another cozy place - this will relieve stress.

3. Nutrition

It is important to choose not only high-quality food, but also the right diet. If this concerns older animals, then nutrition should be treated even more carefully.

4. Wool

As cats age, they pay less and less attention to their own fur. In such cases, pets are combed and bathed as needed with a suitable shampoo.

5. Inspection

And the last important point is a check-up with a veterinarian. Experts recommend doing it at least once a year, in combination with vaccination.

But older cats, over 10 years old, are recommended to be shown to specialists at least once every six months.
