Is It True That Some People Don't Dream: Science Confirms

From a scientific point of view, dreams are a ground for research. One can study why dreams occur or why they do not occur at all.

It seems that it was much faster to get an exact answer to the second question than to study the nature of dreams, and especially prophetic ones.

Scientists from France contributed to the study of the nature of night visions. First of all, they suggested that everyone dreams, but not everyone remembers that they saw them.

The findings were announced in 2014. At that time, researchers classified people with increased brain activity in this category.

In particular, activity was observed in the temporoparietal junction and medial prefrontal cortex.

But as for people who do not see dreams at all, this is not fiction, but a rather rare phenomenon.

Experts generally associate the disabling of this “option” with a previous illness or brain injury.

One such example was discovered in 1984. Having received a shrapnel wound to the head, the patient was left without the phase of sleep known as REM sleep.

Otherwise, he was a completely healthy person, leading a very ordinary life.

In addition, the researchers came to the conclusion that the ability to see dreams disappears in people who, for various reasons, are forced to take antidepressants in serious doses.

The drug shortens the REM sleep phase, which again affects the ability to see dreams, or patients quickly forget them.
