Anna Ryazanova, an expert on psychology at the online publication BelNovosti, told us how to develop and strengthen willpower.

You need to try not to be led by your momentary states, finish what you started, and start what you have been putting off for a long time.

Don't get carried away by emotions and your reactions, which you may regret later. You need to achieve your goals, no matter what.

What will help you achieve your goal?

Have a goal and a plan. We can reach the goal if we have a clear action plan. It can consist of some simple actions that need to be done every day, with small steps getting closer to the big goal.

And it is necessary to write down the criteria that will indicate that we are moving towards this goal. This could be feedback from the people around us, a sense of satisfaction from what we do every day.

At first, the goal should not be very global and stretch over years or months. You can set the simplest goal, for example, for a week.

Hang up a calendar and mark the days when we complete a task. After you complete the goal, be sure to praise yourself and please yourself with something you've wanted for a long time.

And so gradually you will get used to the fact that you need to perform certain actions in a certain amount of time.

We need to be prepared for breakdowns, when on the fourth or fifth day it seems to us that we don’t really want to achieve the goal. This is where willpower comes in – in overcoming our habits and patterns, when we find arguments that the goal is more important than momentary weakness.

Then there is an anticipation of joy from achieving the goal. And it seems much fuller and brighter from the feeling that you have overcome your weaknesses, fears and willpower has been included in the process.

Demonstrate willpower - gradually the psyche will get used to completing things and getting pleasure from it.

In the same way, we can get rid of some negative qualities of our character, and here too small steps will be needed for a certain period of time. By performing these actions, we will feel that we have freed ourselves from a bad habit and will gain joy from victory over ourselves.

It is important not to follow your habits and to break away from your usual patterns of thinking.
