How does crowd action affect a person?

Let's consider together with the expert of the online publication "Belnovosti", psychologist, transformational trainer Dmitry Stepanov this very topical issue, which almost every person living in modern society has to face.

Let's start with the base

In the modern world, people are very dependent on the opinions of others. Living in big cities, in a society of people, a person is forced to comply with generally accepted standards. This is an unwritten rule, which is essentially the basis for a banal existence. Not to mention any additional achievements.

If a person deviates from generally accepted standards and rules, he automatically becomes "abnormal". And it becomes difficult for him to convey his views to others and to realize his intentions and goals. Therefore, public opinion greatly suppresses the individual, driving a person into generally accepted frameworks.

Now let's return to the action of the crowd and its influence on the individual. For each person, the basis of life is safety. And the basis of safe life in society is acceptance of others.

When a person feels accepted, he is psychologically relaxed. He does not need to defend himself and prove his right to exist. He is able to live calmly, in a comfortable environment for himself, and interact with the world around him, without fearing for his safety.

Therefore, the crowd, in other words, the society of people that currently surrounds a person, is the most important component of his life.

The crowd is stronger than the individual in all respects. And from the point of view of psychology, it is also very significant for a person. After all, otherwise, a person remains alone. And for many, the fear of loneliness is equivalent to the fear of death. And in order to avoid the fear of loneliness and at the same time be accepted in society, a person psychologically surrenders to the pressure of the crowd.

It is noteworthy that in most life situations people themselves do not even realize the psychological effect of the above chain. It works as an instinct for survival, comparable to the animal world, which is based on the fear of loneliness and non-acceptance by others.

But people differ from animals in that they are able to recognize their reactions and go beyond their own fears and limitations. The practice of meditation can help everyone with this, thanks to which a person can learn to track the nature of their reactions. Of course, this is hard and long-term work on yourself, but the level of benefit it brings is not commensurate with the time spent.
