Continuing to prepare for the new summer cottage season, gardeners try to learn something new or refresh forgotten knowledge.
One of the tricks to increase the yield of vegetable crops is soaking the seeds. But do you need to soak onion sets?
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" - a scientist, agronomist and landscape designer, explained why onions should be soaked before planting.
First, before soaking, the day before planting, you need to place the seeds in a warm place (you can put them on a radiator) and leave them for 8-11 hours.
This procedure reduces the risk of bolting.
Secondly, disinfection is then mandatory.
For this purpose, a solution of potassium permanganate or salt is prepared.
You can buy an antifungal agent in the store and keep the seedlings in this solution for at least 30 minutes.
1. You need to remove the excess husk, but do not expose the onion completely.
2. Then you need to prepare a solution of table salt. For one liter of clean water at room temperature, take 1 tablespoon of salt.
3. Stir and after the salt has dissolved, place the bulbs in water for 3 hours.
After this, you can start planting. They say that salt protects against pests.
The method is popular among experienced gardeners.
For soaking, prepare a solution of potassium permanganate of a rich dark color.
Before spring planting, the bulbs are kept in it for 2 hours. For winter planting of onions, 5 minutes is quite enough.
By following these tips, you can save your energy and reap a rich harvest of onions.
