Owners of compost pits do not have to worry too much about preparing fertilizer during warm winters.

Frosty weather can affect the process of processing organic waste - this is known to everyone. Therefore, many people prefer to cover the pits for the winter.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" - a scientist agronomist and landscape designer, told how to act correctly in such a situation.

In fact, it was worth figuring out how to prepare compost back in November.

Those who took and covered the compost heap for the winter, despite all the arguments and advice, did the right thing.

The main task is to maintain the process so that the organic matter continues to rot even in winter.

Film or agrofibre will help maintain the working temperature in a compost pit or heap.

But in the case of film, it is necessary to leave holes to allow air to enter, which is also necessary for the microorganisms involved in processing, as well as heat.

Instead of polyethylene film, you can use other materials - spunbond, for example, or its analogues, which summer residents call breathable.

Covering will speed up processing and allow you to start using free and useful fertilizer earlier.
