Cucumbers and tomatoes are representatives of different families. This means that they do not have any common diseases or pests.

Does this mean that interplanting will not affect yields and that such an idea can be implemented?

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" - a scientist, agronomist and landscape designer, told whether it is possible to grow tomatoes and cucumbers together.

These crops have different pests, diseases and care requirements.

This is the problem that prevents planting vegetable crops in the neighborhood.

What is the difference

1. Tomatoes are harmed by excess moisture, so they are watered at the roots.

But cucumbers love a summer shower and feel great in a humid climate.

Because of the high humidity that cucumbers need, tomatoes get sick.

And because the greenhouse with tomatoes will have to be ventilated, the cucumbers, which do not tolerate drafts, may get sick.

2. Fertilizers for tomatoes should be applied regularly.

Cucumbers are less demanding in this regard. They also need fertile soil, but require less fertilizer.

3. Because of the heat, tomato leaves turn yellow and dry out, but cucumbers do not suffer much from high temperatures.

Joint planting

It is possible to consider joint planting in one greenhouse if the gardener is able to provide the necessary conditions for each crop.

But practice shows that not every summer resident can divide the greenhouse space into zones to create the necessary microclimate for vegetable crops.
