Stone fruit trees have different care features. They require more attention in terms of feeding and pruning.
As for pruning, it is often planned for spring. Although autumn would be better.
Experienced gardeners told us how to prune cherries and plums, apricots and other stone fruit crops in September.
Stone fruit trees are pruned in the fall to prepare not so much for the new season, but for winter.
Pruning is carried out according to a specific pattern.
1. Sanitary pruning is carried out, which is best planned for September, and if the autumn is warm, then it can be done in October.
2. Cut the branches at an angle of 45 degrees.
3. In addition to diseased and damaged shoots, remove all branches that grow inside the crown and hang down to the ground.
4. Young shoots are removed from the trunk and forks.
5. Seasonal pruning allows the removal of no more than 1/3 of the total volume of branches.
If large-scale pruning is necessary, it should be divided into several stages.
Otherwise, the procedure may cause severe stress to the tree.
