Truth or myth: is it really forbidden to water plants in the heat of the day - a note for summer residents

19.07.2024 03:30

There is a popular opinion among summer residents that beds should not be watered during the day in the heat.

It is believed that the procedure performed during the daytime (and not in the morning or evening) hours is fraught with the fact that the plants will face a serious moisture deficit.

Moreover, many gardeners are sure that daytime watering can cause serious harm to garden and vegetable crops.

Thus, representatives of the flora can allegedly face serious burns due to the fact that droplets of water remaining on the plants focus the sun's rays on the leaf blades.

Is this conclusion true? This question was answered by the expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", scientist-agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh.

Is it possible to water plants in hot weather?

The specialist emphasizes: contrary to popular belief, watering during the day in hot weather is not dangerous for plants.

Crops are unlikely to get sunburned.

At the same time, the expert confirms the fact that during hot periods, daytime watering is less effective than morning or evening watering.

The fact is that at the peak of solar activity, water evaporates more quickly. Because of this, plants are unable to obtain enough liquid.

This is why it is better to move watering to the evening or morning.

But this is the ideal option. If the procedure cannot be performed in a cooler period, then the plants can and should be watered during the day. Yes, watering will not be the most effective in this case, but a lack of moisture is better than its complete absence.
