Proper care of strawberries after harvesting is considered no less important than the fruiting period itself.
In no case should you abandon the beds immediately after picking the berries. It is important to continue to take care of your favorite crop.
On two- or three-year-old plants, first of all, it is necessary to remove all dried leaves affected by pests and various diseases.
Then you should cut off the shoots that have borne fruit. At the same time, you need to make sure that the young leaves remain intact and unharmed, since the healthy growth of the bushes in the future depends on them.
Next, you need to remove all the debris that has accumulated under the bushes: dead tendrils, leaves, fallen berries, old mulch.
This will help to secure the plantings, protect them from pests and dangerous diseases.
After thoroughly cleaning the beds, you need to weed and loosen the soil.
If wrinkled leaves appear on the bushes during the season, the berry bush should be treated with acaricidal preparations.
Most likely, a mite has settled on the plants, which must be immediately disposed of. Also, those plants that have "rusty", brown spots are subject to urgent treatment.
Once the strawberry beds are in order, they need to be watered generously and covered with new mulch.
Particular attention should be paid to plant feeding. For these purposes, it is better to use liquid organic fertilizers.
For example, manure diluted and infused in water. It is very important that the concentration of the product is minimal, otherwise the plants will begin to actively grow foliage and will not be able to form fruit buds.
