Any gardener will tell you that it is not enough to grow a crop – it is important to harvest it correctly, otherwise it will not be stored.

In July, in addition to zucchini and cucumbers, summer residents begin to harvest winter garlic. Some people rely on planting dates, others do it by eye.

Experienced gardeners have their own special signs that allow them to determine whether garlic can sit in the garden for a little while longer or, on the contrary, it can rot a little longer.

Cleaning by deadlines

If we talk about time frames, then digging garlic begins in mid-July.

At the same time, for most gardeners, the main sign of crop maturity is yellowing feathers.

But there is a no less accurate method, for which an arrow with a seed pod is left on the garlic.

As soon as it begins to open, the crop can be harvested.

They also leave 2-3 lower feathers - if they are dry and the upper leaves have turned yellow, then the harvest is ready.

You can also determine the maturity of garlic by its scales, but to do this you need to dig up one plant.

Ripeness is indicated by scales that fit tightly to the teeth, and also by a change in color to purple or white.

And the last sign is the roots. They should be light gray or already starting to dry out.

Garlic planted in spring is harvested only at the end of summer.
