First, you need to remove the shoots that have produced the harvest - they will no longer bear fruit, but will interfere with the formation of new shoots.
Secondly, pruning improves lighting and ventilation, which reduces the risk of disease and pest infestation.
Thirdly, the plant directs its energy to the development of new and strong shoots, rather than to the maintenance of weak and sick ones. As a result, the harvest increases.
When to prune raspberries
There is no need to wait for any arbitrary dates. The best time is the last harvest. This could be August or September.
How to trim correctly
1. Pruning is carried out with sterile garden shears or pruning shears.
2. First, remove the shoots that bore fruit this season, cutting them 2-3 cm above ground level.
3. In addition to old shoots, thin and weak shoots are cut out, as well as the tops of shoots that have grown to 1.5-2 meters in height.
