How to Water Eggplants in Hot Weather: 2 Common Mistakes That Reduce the Quality of the Crop

04.07.2024 06:20

The beginning of July turned out to be quite hot.

Summer residents should under no circumstances ignore the fact that weather conditions are changing.

If the owner of a country plot does not take into account the increase in air temperature and continues to care for the plants as he did before the onset of the hot period, he may lose the harvest of many crops.

Eggplants are an example. Their improper watering in hot conditions is fraught with a sharp decrease in the quality of the harvest.

The fruits may be small and bitter.

An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh spoke about two common mistakes when watering eggplants.

Rare watering

During cool periods, eggplants should be watered twice a week.

And if it becomes hot outside, then the procedure should be carried out every two days.

Not enough water

Heat is a reason to water the popular garden crop not only more often, but also more abundantly.

If in a cool period one watering can of water is enough for 2-3 bushes, then in conditions of high air temperature this volume should be enough for one plant.

Remember: a lack of moisture can cause eggplants to become excessively bitter.

Also, don't forget about other watering rules that need to be followed even if the summer is not hot.

First, eggplants need to be watered at the root. The liquid should not get on the fruits, leaf blades and other above-ground parts of the plant.

Secondly, after completing the procedure, the soil cover must be loosened a little and covered with mulch material.

Earlier we listed the mistakes 90% of gardeners make when adding ash to their gardens.
