Ah, roses! These gorgeous creatures can turn any garden into a magical corner. But, alas, not all gardeners can boast of the lush flowering of their pets. Sound familiar, right?
Either the variety is capricious, or the place is unsuitable... But don't despair! A correctly chosen place is already half the battle! And we will help you figure out where your rose will be most comfortable.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told how to act in such a situation.
Roses are true "sun worshipers". For abundant flowering they need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
In the shade they wither, stretch out, bloom poorly, and are more susceptible to diseases. The ideal option is the morning sun, which gently awakens the rose, and light partial shade during the midday heat.
But! It is important to consider the climate. In hot southern regions, the midday sun can be too aggressive, causing burns on delicate petals. In this case, choose a place with delicate shade from trees or buildings.
Roses prefer loose, fertile soil with good drainage. Stagnant water is enemy number one! The roots rot, and the rose simply dies.
Before planting, be sure to enrich the soil with compost or humus. If the soil is heavy and clayey, add sand or perlite. Acidity is another important factor. The optimal pH for roses is 6-6.5.
Roses are ladies with character! And they do not want to share territory with all plants. Strong competitors, such as lilac, mock orange, viburnum, will take away nutrients and moisture from the rose. But lavender, sage, geranium, on the contrary, will create a harmonious duet and protect from pests.
Roses do not like strong winds, which can damage their fragile stems and flowers. Choose places protected from drafts - near a fence, a house wall, among trees. But remember that the plantings should not be too dense to ensure good ventilation and prevent fungal diseases.
Roses look great not only in the garden, but also at the entrance to the house, decorating the veranda, porch or gazebo. And a romantic rose climbing an arch or pergola will become a real decoration of your garden!
Well, now you are armed with all the knowledge to find the perfect spot for your rose in the garden! Happy planting!
