Beginning gardeners should know that sowing vegetable crops is carried out not only according to the recommendations of the lunar calendar.

A much more important guideline is the crop variety, and also the climate.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told how to calculate the date of sowing tomatoes for seedlings.

What is the most important thing?

The main indicators are the plant variety and the climatic features of the region, which determine the date of planting seedlings in the ground or greenhouse.

Secrets of landing

Varieties and hybrids are distinguished not so much by name, but by the time of fruit ripening.

So, there are early and ultra-early varieties (fruits reach maturity 80-105 days after sowing); mid-season (110-120 days) and late-season (125-140 days).

Also, don’t forget that you need to leave 5-7 days for seedlings to emerge and 3-5 days for adaptation after transplanting.

One more thing. The seedlings are transplanted into the greenhouse on the 50-60th day, and into the open ground after 60-70 days.

Final settlement

Knowing all this data and the day when it is customary to plant tomato seedlings in your region, you can choose a suitable date on the calendar and count 60 or 70 days from it.

If we start from the harvest date, then we need to add up the time from the sowing date to ripening (different for each variety), the time for emergence and the time for transplantation.

The resulting amount must be counted from the date of planting the seedlings in the ground or greenhouse.

Previously, we talked about how to get rid of mold in containers with seedlings.
