In order to get a good harvest from fruit trees, they need to be pruned, and pruning must be done according to all the rules.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh spoke about how the procedure should be carried out.
First, about the timing of pruning. The best time begins after harvesting and ends with the first frosts. The tool is also important - it should be sharp and clean.
In this case, the gardener will have to shorten the tree trunk and remove vertical shoots. The side branches are cut to the first bud.
Don't forget to get rid of diseased and dry branches. You will also need to decide on the shape of the crown and trim unnecessary shoots.
Arm yourself with pruning shears or a saw and cut off the top by 20-25 cm, and then the side branches by 6-8 cm.
Next in line is the second tier, the pruning of which is necessary for the correct formation of the lower branches.
Be sure to remove vertical shoots so that they do not interfere with sunlight reaching the lower part of the tree.
As in previous cases, it is worth continuing the work of shortening the top of the tree and side branches.
Gardeners also recommend removing crooked, upright and dried shoots, as well as growth that could disrupt the shape of the crown.
Earlier, the expert told us what kind of plant should be planted in the trunk circles of fruit trees.
