A great joy for any gardener will be the harvest of a rich potato crop.

It is important to remember that high yields are not just the result of luck.

This is also the result of the correct activities of the owner of a country house.

An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told what a summer resident should do to have as many large and high-quality tubers as possible.

Digging the bed correctly

The area chosen for growing potatoes must be properly “processed”.

And we are not talking about simple digging. It is advisable to dig the soil with hay and compost. If this condition is met, the quality of the soil cover will improve significantly.

But there is an important nuance: it is advisable to carry out the procedure in the autumn months. Otherwise, the decomposition of the straw will simply not be completed in time.

Watering correctly

Some gardeners mistakenly believe that potatoes do not particularly “suffer from thirst,” so they do not think about watering.

But the corresponding procedure must be carried out at least three times during the entire summer season.

The first time this should be done after the sprouts appear. Then - when flowering begins. And then - after the completion of this process.

Each bush should receive at least 3 liters of liquid.

Watering potatoes should be done even if the growing period of the plant turns out to be quite rainy.

Feed correctly

Before planting potatoes, the gardener should add a small amount of nitroammophoska to the hole, which will replenish the deficiency of potassium, nitrogen, and phosphorus components.

At the next stages, the garden crop should be fed with nettle infusion and superphosphate.

Earlier, the expert explained why summer residents sow cucumbers in boiling water.
