Ginger root is already familiar to most buyers, just like garlic or potatoes.
But growing an exotic plant on a windowsill is as easy as growing tomato seedlings or other vegetable crops.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told how to grow ginger.
The key to success is in the successful purchase of the right root.
It should have growth buds (eyes), the skin should be smooth, not over-dried, the cut areas should be light, without mucus, mold and rot.
The main condition is good drainage.
Composition: leaf humus and sand.
Ginger should be kept in conditions close to a greenhouse - away from drafts, good lighting and no stagnant moisture.
Divide the large root into parts and choose the one with more buds. Treat the cuts with ash.
For planting, choose shallow but wide pots (15-25 cm deep).
Pour some soil and sand onto the bottom, then expanded clay, then put in the ginger root and sprinkle with soil in a layer of 5-7 cm.
Water after planting and continue to water every other day until sprouts appear.
After this, water as needed and place the pot with the plant in a sunny place.
In summer, you can take the flowerpot outside, but not in direct sunlight.
When the leaves wither, the ginger can be dug up. However, it may take 8-9 months before this happens.
