Seeds are the basis of successful gardening and vegetable gardening. But there are many unscrupulous sellers on the seed market who offer low-quality or counterfeit seeds.

How to avoid falling for their tricks and make the right choice?

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told what kind of water can destroy indoor plants.

Research the manufacturer

Trust only proven and well-known companies that have a good reputation and a long history in the market.

Read reviews about them on the Internet, ask your gardening friends for advice, visit the manufacturer’s official website.

If you come across a new or unknown company, then buy seeds in small quantities to try.

Pay attention to the place of sale

It is best to buy seeds in specialized stores or from official dealers of the manufacturer. There you will be able to get the necessary documentation.

Avoid buying seeds at markets, in passages or from random sellers. There you risk buying expired, low-quality or counterfeit seeds.

Check the packaging

The seed package must be intact, clean and tightly sealed.

It should contain all the necessary information about the seeds: the name of the crop and variety, the packaging date and expiration date, the manufacturer and its contacts, storage and sowing conditions, guaranteed germination and the number of seeds in the package.

If the packaging is damaged, not sealed, or does not contain sufficient information, it is better to refuse the purchase.

Compare price

The price of seeds depends on many factors such as quality, variety, season, supply and demand.

However, if you see that the price of seeds is too low or too high compared to similar products, then this may be a sign of suspicion.

Too low a price may indicate that the seeds are expired, of poor quality or counterfeit.

A price that is too high may indicate that the seller is trying to profit from your naivety or ignorance.

Therefore, compare prices for seeds in different places and choose the best option.

Do a trial sowing

If you still doubt the quality of the seeds or want to check their germination, you can do a test sowing.

To do this, take a few seeds from the package and sow them in a damp napkin, peat tablet or small pot with soil.

Place them in a warm and bright place and monitor the humidity. After a few days, you will be able to assess how many seeds have sprouted, how they look and how they are growing.

If you are satisfied with the result, you can safely sow the remaining seeds. If not, it is better to return or exchange the product.
